3/4s Class Teacher
I can’t remember a time when I did not want to be a teacher. So my 36 years of teaching preschool (29 here at PNS and 7 years at First Presbyterian Preschool, a co-op school in Norfolk, VA) have been a continuation of my lifelong passion.
My number one goal as a preschool teacher is for each child to be happy and to know just how special he/she is. To accomplish this goal, I am guided by my teaching philosophy to create a program that will be developmentally appropriate for young children and that centers on open-ended learning experiences. Young children learn best through play, so each of our centers are set up to encourage independence, discovery, creativity, and most of all, FUN! Play is fundamental in a child-centered classroom and allows children the freedom to learn without stress.
I received my B.A. in Elementary Education from Arcadia University and my M.Ed in Early Childhood Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from George Mason University. The State of Virginia has certified me to teach children from preschool through Grade 8. I have been the Lead Teacher at Providence for the past 25 years.
My husband, Bill, and I share our home with two rambunctious basset hounds, Bentley and Murphy. Our son, daughter-in-law, and two adorable daughters live in Fairfax…and that makes this Nana very, very happy! Our daughter works in Alexandria and lives in Dunn Loring…so she, too, is nearby. We couldn’t be prouder of our kids and love spending time with them whenever they can fit us into their busy schedules.
