General Information

Preschoolers in coats and hats walking across a bridge

Our school year runs from mid-September to May each year. We follow the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) calendar, as well as inclement weather days, so that we have the same holidays and teacher work days as public schools.

As we are a preschool and run a year long curriculum, our class ages are based on the child's age as of September 30 of that current school year (with the exception of 3's in the Threes & Fours class). Additionally, our classes are designed for your child's attendance on all days scheduled.

As a cooperative preschool, parent involvement is not only a benefit to your child, but also runs the school and keeps tuition low. Your responsibilities are just as important as your child's opportunities. Please review the Summary of Member Responsibilities when considering each class and if Providence Nursery School's program is the right fit for you.

We understand that children develop at difference paces. Toilet training is not required for any of the preschool's classes.

Outdoor Learning

PNS is lucky to have an abundance of Outdoor Learning Spaces! Large covered porches, shaded playground and picnic areas, grassy fields for playing and a protected asphalt area for bikes!

We spend lots of time outdoors playing, learning and enjoying!

Music

Students at PNS enjoy weekly music classes that incorporate songs, movement and instruments!

Enrichment Activities

Students in the 3s, 3/4s, and 4s classes participate in enrichment activities once a month, including puppet shows, creative movement, pumpkin painting, nature/wildlife presentations, etc. All activities are held at the school, with younger students and/or siblings welcome to come in for many events.

Lunch Bunch

An optional paid Lunch Bunch is held immediately after school, from 12:30 pm–1:30 pm. It gives children in the 3s, 3/4s, and 4s classes an additional fun hour to their school day. Children bring their own packed lunch and enjoy eating and playing in a supervised small group setting. Click here for pricing.

After School Enrichment Activities

We also offer a 30 minute, paid after school enrichment programs on Wednesdays after Lunch Bunch, for those who wish to enroll their child. These classes may include soccer, My Gym, and yoga provided by outside instructors during different months of the year. Age limits, maximum number of children, and availability of the programs varies.

Summer Camp

Some years, we offer a 2 week long summer camp for the first two weeks of June. Click here to find out more!
